I think the float is a good thing, you'll have to learn how to control your pedal stroke in such a way that it is comfortable for you. I think this is really helpful, your pedal stroke becomes more personal. The Zeros are adjustable and I've removed a bit of the heel in and heel out float but left some. The first time I stood up to attack a hill I had to sit right back down because I felt so wobbly on them. Once I got used to them though I don't really even much notice the float, my foot follows the same path each time, they found the path they like and that's what they do.
I notice you say you're thinking of switching from red to yellow, and then say you don't like your foot floating around, but the red's are the zero float cleats, so I'm a bit confused.
I fixed it. I meant to say I'm thinking of switching from yellow to red.
