I've often wondered that myself, I'd love to see the cost of manufacture for a carbon frame. I wouldn't be surprised if some have a 2000% markup. Brazing steel pipes together to make a frame seems much less high-tech and exotic than the magic of carbon fiber, I'm sure the manufacturers exploit that popular opinion. To me a carbon frame reads as burned cloth dipped in epoxy and laminated like paper mache . . .
