Ah. I agree, touring is a huge source of pleasure, but I counted touring as "smelling the roses". Not that it made much difference to the poll, because I ride in most of these styles at different times. There are only three I don't do. I don't mountain bike, I don't race (though now I'm retiring and will have time to train I might get into some veterans - you call them masters - races) and I tend to avoid "relaxed" group rides. Constantly riding at someone else's pace, stopping to regroup and so on detracts too much from my enjoyment.
Cycling is principally a solitary rather than a social activity for me. Groups of similar ability, or club rides in pacelines, are fine, but one of the joys of being on a bike is being alone with the bike and one's surroundings.
