If it's a 501 frame, it's newer than 85. After 85, Peugeot started to pull out Vitus 980 steel frames from their mid level lineup to be replaced mostly by Reynolds 501 frames. The last Triahlon versions were 501s. I think Peugeot's ride quality mostly comes from the frame angles they use.
