Yessir, flat handlebar former MTB, but now much closer to a hybrid with all the modifications I've made. Thinking Shimano Deore triggers. I'm trying to decide whether I want the single "dual control" units or get the shifters/brake levers separately. I've always had dual control and I like the integration, but it might be nice to only have to swap out one component if something breaks rather than the entire thing.
you can get shimano slx 9 speed shifters for 65 bucks from nashbar and avid speed levers for about $25. the nice thing about the avid brake levers is that they are reversible so if you crash and break your front lever you could always swap levers on the road and keep it moving. i liked the slx shifters because you could push or pull the lever to shift it, pretty cool. too bad some dbag stole my handlebars so I'm in the process or replacing this stuff.
