Few people actually know how much of the technology they take for granted was a direct offshoot of, or given impetus by, the NASA programs. I daresay only military developments have offered more advances in technology.
So today, we want to shut NASA down because our paid politicians have mismanaged our finances. What made us think a politician = an economist, anyway?
People can certainly get their priorities skewed.
+1 Not to mention 1 month in Iraq costs more than the entire NASA budget combined from it's inception*. Really a shame, but hopefully companies like Virgin Galactic will help pick up the slack.
*edit: 1 month of the war budget > 1 year of nasa, and the war in total has been more than NASA in total. ~20bill for Air conditioning in Iraq and Afghanistan is more than nasa 19bill for example.
