Have $700 cash in hand when you go to buy it and see what he says then. The Ultegra is a nice upgrade to that bike, but the frame itself is about as cheap as they come. That was originally a $400 bike complete (with Sora components). Still, as long as it doesn't feel like a wet noodle when you sprint on it, it should be fine for racing.
