I was running CR-720s for a while on my touring bike and had contant trouble getting the straddle cable right. I recently added a JandD rack and they conflicted with the arm so I replaced them with an Onyx set (with a link cable) and haven't had any problems since.

Maybe the problem is that I'm not Sheldon but IMHO the straddle cables are more trouble than they're worth.
