I certainly wouldn't hesitate lacing to a nicer rim. I would think any Rigida/Mavic from the era would be appropriate. I'm not sure what year mine was. It was silver/red, Reynolds 531. Maybe a tad older than yours?
I think this one is a 74. 531 frame, hi-ten fork.
