On a more funny note. Decades ago I did the Land Rush. San Francisco to Los Angeles in 2 days. First day between 10:00 and 2:00 or so I passed lots of tarantulas, often in groups stanging on the shoulder with their front legs in the air. Images of webs being shot out and dragging doen a cyclist as prey were disturbing.
I'm just glad that by evening I was well past them.
Actually in order to shot out the web to "drag" a cyclist down they'd have to turn around and face away from the road. As their spinnerets are in the back. I don't suppose that you happened to get a good enough look at them to identify them?
