i was just mounting some wire bead tires to hookless rims today, a couple of old Schwinns. I have had trouble in the past not with the tire blowing off but with the bead of the tire not seating evenly around the rim, this would always give me a low spot in the tire. Now before i inflate the tires i brush on some soapy water between the rim and tire and pump it right up to full pressure (or a little more) and everything evens right out.
