November RFSC 58s - Ongoing Review and Impressions

I know there's pretty much NO info on these guys, so I figured I'd start a thread and report my findings. I can say that in the two months I've been waiting on these wheels Mike and Dave have been extremely helpful with any questions I've had. They even shipped them UPS for me instead of USPS so I could have (up to date) tracking info to be sure I was home when they arrived.

The wheelset arrived today after I pre-ordered them in June.
I've never owned carbon clinchers before so I don't have anything to compare them to other than my Williams System 30s and my stock Giant wheelset.

They arrived in a standard cardboard box. Pretty well packed with lots of extra packing material to keep things safe.

The wheelset itself appears to be great quality. No noticeable defects or imperfections in the carbon fiber. I didn't weigh them. I wanted to get them on the bike so much I forgot to. I'll do that when I need to change tubes or tires and update this post.

The wheels arrived with the following:
Front Wheel
Rear Wheel
Rim tape (not really tape, kind of elastic plasticy stuff that seems to work great)
Four Carbon Specific Brake Pads
Presta Valve extension. (The kind that works with removable cores.)
A little piece of metal that is about 3/8" long by 1/2" wide. It has a hole in one half and a U shaped cutout on the other. No idea what it is or what it's for.

The first thing I noticed is that the hub is very quiet. Not as quiet as my stock hubs but extremely quiet compared to the Williams. There is a 'clicking' noise, but not very loud at all. I know a lot of people go both ways about this.

I installed a set of Bontrager Race X Lite 45mm tubes and Schwalbe Ultremo R.1's. I took a quick test ride on the wheels around my apartment complex to be sure everything was in working order. Nothing too exciting on the ride. I'm going to do 40ish miles on them tomorrow so I'll report back.

I have other pictures, but for now here's one of them on my Giant TCR Composite.
I'll post more detailed shots is later posts.
