Sorry I was mistaken. It was
St. Martin of Tours who cut his cloak in half in the Fourth Century. He was an unbaptized Roman soldier, but had a dream that night that Jesus was wearing the cloak half. Whether literally true or not, the story of St. Martin is an illuswtration of Jesus saying that whatever you do for the least of people, you are doing for him.
