Thanks for the kind words about my bike man! I appreciate it! For the record, the frame shown above is about 3 years old or so! Does not have any of the cool little things the newer Madones have.

Yes, this was the question I was going to ask.

As for Trek, I absolutely love the brand. They do some really awesome things for WI and biking in general (like donating $1 million to start the B Cycle bike share program in Madison, donating money from sales to local bike feds, and sponsoring tons of local rides / events in the area, and getting hundreds of thousands of people to sign up for 'people for bikes' to get some buzz and support for gvnt transportation dollars to be spent on bike lanes, exc.).

Go to WI, take a tour. Spend some time walking around the HQ. Its an awesome place, filled with people who LOVE bikes. Trust me.

As for 'cutting edge', I feel Trek is right on par with other bikes, at least in the high end category.

Anywho, I enjoy my Trek(s) and will enjoy them for life. OP and other non Trek riders, I enjoy the fact that you are on bikes (even if not Treks), because I think more people on bikes is a great thing. Hopefully even you recreational riders / racers start to use your bikes for other things like commuting. Bikes are great. The more people on them the better. I dont really care what you ride, or to even start a thread about hating another bike company. Like i said, more people on bikes is a great thing. Keep riding ya'll!
