After riding and testing the bikes that were available near me and in my price range, Trek, Kona, Specialized, Cannondale etc., it came down to a Trek 2.1 or the Gary Fisher Ion Pro. I chose the Ion Pro which I guess is a kind of Trek, or at least Trek built. I got a great deal on the bike and so far, it's performed flawlessly.
