Beautiful commute today. 65 degrees, unusually cool for August, but the air felt crisp this morning and it makes me want fall weather even more.
My boyfriend, who lives in an apartment next to mine, and I are riding bikes to school/work now. This was our first day to do it, instead of walking. Walking takes around 30 minutes. We are both doctoral students and we really don't have money for parking passes, and I don't even have a car.
He has my old (it was too tall for me) Raleigh Marathon road bike and I have a new-to-me Brittany Free Spirit. The Brittany is heavier than heck. As he was zipping ahead of me today, I was a little jealous. But it was nice to have him wait for me at the top of a hill, cheering me on: "COME ON, JUST A LITTLE FARTHER!" I also was carrying lots of stuff on my bike...ah well.
We rode home just now and he and I were having such a great time that we kept riding right past our apartments. We rode an extra few miles around the neighborhood. It was so fun to have him beside me as we careened through the side streets. I feel lucky to be dating a guy who wants to go to work on a bike with me! I think we will have great success this fall going to school on bikes. I just have to persuade him to buy fenders...I know he'll want them when it rains!
