I find it odd that UCI regulations are the limiting factor in bicycle manufacturing. Probably over 99% of world-wide bike owners do not compete. Why would anyone care if their bike is UCI compliant if your aren't competing? Just like in golf, I can go to any sports store in the country and pick up an oversized driver that is not PGA approved or golf-balls designed to go farther than regulation balls...and it's a HUGE market. I would imagine that if Brand-X decided to screw UCI rules and really put some effort in to designing a bike that truly is revolutionary (and affordable) it would be a big hit. As it is, every major manufacturer is cranking out the same stuff.
