120 miles, 4350 kcals, 7hrs, 367 TSS.
I had to change routes as one of the climbs was actually on a private road, but still, the first 3.5 hours went really well. The next hour or so wasn't bad, though i did have to climb up US 6 by Woodbury Commons as cars were whizzing by at 50+ mph. The ride through Harriman park was also good, though my legs were starting to get fatigued. I did rest stop #2, had lunch, and thought i got my energy needs replenished. WRONG
Whereas i was averaging 195W in the previous 4+ hours, my power begin to drop. First to 190, then 180, and it didn't take long before it dropped all the way to the low 140's. Crap. Something was wrong. Last week i did a long ride on less training load and carried a higher avg power toward the end, yet it wasn't happening today. For the next 15+ miles, i dragged my slow ass along, and it was pitiful. Then all the sudden i got some snap back in my legs. Not completely back to 195W, but close enough. I think though i didn't bonk per se, my blood sugar was probably dipping, and it took about an hour or so for my body to replenish it with the food i just ate. Lesson learned. I was shooting for 400TSS today, and i had 205 at the halfway point. Oh well. Next time i'll be smarter about eating on the bike. Though, it's really really hard to eat anything in this weather as i just didn't have the appetite...
