Dear Carleton,

I had an interesting conversation with a friend this weekend. She said she'd been doing spin classes at the gym for three years, but never had an instructor give a lesson on proper form. Last Friday, she had a very good instructor who rather than simply play terrible remixes and tell the class to stand up/sit down/sprint, encouraged good form and position. My friend said it was the best workout/class she'd ever attended and now wants to look into a fixed gear. That led me to this question- though i'm not familiar with the "spin classes" do you think the work that a person would/can do during spin classes at the gym translates to the road?

(haven't seen this question asked, if i missed it... well i suck again.)

thanks,
