This discussion has been had before... Even for those in no-fault states, there is no guarantee that you would not be held liable for any damages (to others), and you can't rely on homeowner's (or renter's) insurance to cover your needs without FIRST consulting your local agents to get proper coverage...

To put coverage needs into perspective; In late June I was in a cycling accident (no one else involved), while traveling at about 14 mph. I don't remember the details of the accident, but I was unconcious for about an hour (or so) and had three facial fractures and several other abrasions... The hospital bill was $50,000...

In terms of causing damage to others, consider that you can be held liable for damage you caused to others even if you were not part of the impact... For instance, you run a stop, and a truck veers and collides with something... YOUR FAULT... Lots of liability...
