Hang it over the handlebars, bring along something to tie around the lock and frame steerer tube,
so it wont swing around so much. but of course not keep you from turning the handlebars

I tie my big loop of armored cable lock down with a spare toe strap,
on my big tall steerer on a Bike Friday.

cannot say Its same for BMX bikes since I've Never Owned one.
