Commute breakfast and sleeping

My commute is 16 miles one way (up to 25 if I take in some hills on the side) and I never eat before (I'm laboring under the myth that I burn more fat by riding on an empty stomach). I carry dry oatmeal or cereal and whip it up at work. (I find, too, that I eat more healthy food by packing my own lunch early in the morning rather than going out for lunch).

My drive takes as long as 40 minutes, and riding only takes an hour (SF Bay Area) so my sleep hours don't change.

I have a trick (which you didn't ask about, but I'm going to tell you anyway): I drive my car to work on Monday with all my clothes for the week and I leave it there. This way I HAVE to ride in in the morning (I'm notoriously lazy and have to take away the option to get lazy and drive in). I am fortunate to have a safe, secure place to leave the vehicle. Then, on Friday afternoon, I load up the dirty laundry and drive home.
