I suspect with the mileage you had on your freehubs, the issue could be the deterioration/erosion of fit of the white FTS-L bushing. That is the weak link in that design.

Could I also suggest you look at Shimano C24 carbon/aluminum wheels? They weigh less than the Mavic, and are better climbing wheels in my opinion.
It looks like they come in at 1515 grams for approximately $600 so the Mavics would be lighter albeit more expensive.
