As a budget minded bike addict I do all of my own maintenance, including fit. That being said, the LBS near me isn't really the greatest as far as service... and I really have to be desperate to go in there at all. I went in there several times when I was just getting started, and only one time did I actually leave with a purchase, simply due to service and attentiveness.

Anyway, I feel teaching myself/learning how to build/maintain/etc a bike is a more worthwhile investment than paying someone else to do it.
