Would you offer some advice on how to purpose these three frames?
So, I have three frames and I'm trying to decide what to do with them.
I have a 2005 MX Leader in Motorola reissue, which is currently my primary rider with an 8 speed set up but for which some have said I should hang up because its just too nice and part of a limited production. I do love the ride, however I also wonder if I should have set it up with something more modern in terms of drive train.
I have a 1989 Paramount that is currently down to just the frame, and for which I have a full 7400 group to build up into an 8 speed STI bike. Even have a nice, newly built set of wheels to go with it. This used to be my primary rider, and while its a very nice bike I do notice some ride differences from the MXL frame
I have a 1989 Bridgestone RB-1 with no plan but a suggestion that I go modern with 10 speed and make it a real horse/masher bike. I have a tri-color 600 8 speed STI set up I could put on it, or I could go with the 7400 if I went elsewhere with the Paramount.
My riding-I'm commuting a few days a week, about 22 miles each way. The commute is mostly flat, with very little incline except at the end on the way home and a very gradual uphill all the way home on the river trail. I wear a small backpack that fits what I need to change just right. I also ride on the weekends, anything from a 25 mile hilly challenge to 60+ again mostly flat ride. I'm no racer, nor do I intend to be, but I am getting set to ride an organized century for the first time.
Me-6'4", 245lbs and working downwards while the fitness goes upwards. Three bikes is as much as I can reasonably store, I just don't have room for more unless I'm just hanging frames up as art.
My questions-how do I keep these bikes from being redundant? I'm a tad OCD, and I really like the drive train to match-up. If I went 10 speed on the MXL, would carbon bits look out of place instead of alloy? Am I making the right choice using any of these bikes as commuters when set up as a straight road bike?
I appreciate whatever advice you care to offer. I fear I've lost some perspective on what to do here, and so I suppose that is what I am hoping to get out posting this. As an edit, I'm not really wanting to ride with panniers...I tried it with a friends bike and I just didn't really enjoy it.
