Spot on Bob. If I am training hard then take 3 days off the bike, I have the same thing happen. The pain in the quads can be absolutely excruciating. Try walking down a flight or two of stairs in that condition. HTFU? Yeah, OK.

Easing into riding again helps but it can take up to a week to clear in my case. Massage helps a lot.
