It actually shows that you're not as in good shape as you expected. If you're truly in hammering shape, a week off will not cause you to lose so much that a short ride like that will cause so much muscle soreness.
But if you're not in that kind of shape, yes, a high intensity session will give you that 'baseball bat to the legs' soreness - which is a good thing; you'll be stronger for it, and it won't recur as long as you put in similar efforts on a regular basis.
