I just picked up a Trek 1200 as my first road bike (been riding a mtn bike) and I have a question on what kind of roads to avoid with it. A lot of roads by me are that stone chip on tar type deal. At this point, they aren't that bumpy but definately not like a regular paved road. Is it ok to ride on these less then perfect roads or am I risking breaking my bike? I guess I'm just curious as to how durable road bikes are. Thanks for the help!
Get some wider tires (25 or 28mm). That will smooth out your ride. Also, learn to get your butt off the saddle when the road gets really rough.
