I have some version of Wellgo's platform/SPD combo pedals in all my three bikes. I ride in a variety of temps, and do not want to buy a pair of SPD shoes for every weather. Also, the walking aspect rings a bell here, especially in winter conditions. I like to have the option of riding in normal shoes. I have not experienced numbness using either side of the pedals. Whatever discomfort there has been, it's been an adjustment issue.
