all my bikes are SPD equipped and i ride all of them with a pair of shimnao MTB shoes with a recessed cleat so i can walk around normally when i'm off the bike. the shoes are very comfortable and i've walked for miles in them before without issue.

some say that it's stupid to put clipless pedals on city/utility/commuter bikes, but it's not a big deal to me at all. if you just get good at track standing, then the whole clipping in and out all the time argument becomes much less persuasive. on my 14 mile ride in to work this morning, i clipped out a grand total of 2 times. that's hardly egregious or excessive over the course of 14 miles.
