Do whatever helps. If writing down what you eat helps, then do it. I never found a need to do that. I just stopped eating what I knew was crap. No cookies. No cake. No ice cream. No potato chips. No soda. More veggies. More fruit. And lots of water. I've dropped 35+ lbs since beginning of March.
