I believe it is a labor of love, and not funded by Trek in any way. Like many of the brand sites, they tend to be created by enthusiasts. Its really too bad the brands themselves don't dig through their archives and post info on the web.
Its really amazing to me the time some people have taken to collect and post information on various brands. Plus you have the cost of maintaining the site once it is completed. The TR Findley Schwinn site is one that comes to mind. Miamijim has done a really nice job on Peugeot. Randy's bike restoration site is great too. I could list many, many more.
So if you want to start a site dedicated to the aluminum frame Treks, that would be great. Some brands (Peugeot comes to mind) have several different sites created by various enthusiasts. The Trek brand is certainly big enough to have more than one site.
Many of us would love to see more data on the aluminum frame Treks, as they are plentiful, and well received in the market.
1993 or newer, bikepedia is the first place I look.
