I think it is time that I learn to do this as biking will always be a part of my everyday life. I own a machine shop so I can make all my own tools and fixtures. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

If your end up replacing half the wheels spokes, I would just replace them all, the labor is already there, why have old mixed with new spokes? And then hope and pray your LBS knows how to build a good wheel...you may want to ask around to find out what other riders thing of the LBS's ability to build wheels.
