Today's outing was a success, especially considering the weather, and the snafu21 SNAFU.
(Alert readers may remember that today we were the Richmond Park Folding Bike Society, a good 1/2 dozen miles from our usual place)
Nigelme and Diode arrived first, and I joined them a little before 10. Unusually, the uber-president was absent, but finally a sign! A text message, actually:
"In a tow-truck. Car overheated" No further communication was vouchsafed to us, but we trust she made it home safely.
Waiting fruitlessly for Snafu, meant that we were still there when the long absent and half-hour-late-today Mulleady turned up. Much hearty handshakes ensued.
Richmond park was the centre of much activity, most noticeably a walk against bowel disease (or, perhaps, in favour of it: I didn't study the t-shirts). A road route out of the park was decided upon, and we quickly headed out Kingston Gate, towards Kingston Upon Thames town centre. Many over priced snacks beckoned, but we felt we needed a few miles under our belts before loosening them, so we crossed the Thames and meandered through Bushy park before taking the Thames path round Hampton Court and back to Kingston.
At that point the glowering sky seem to get more threatening and it started to rain, so we took shelter in a gazebo. Actually, The Gazebo, a nice Sam Smith pub on Kingston river front. We met the lovely and enormous (138kg!) rugby playing Motswana barman. Fun facts: 1) a citizen of Botswana is known as a Motswana. 2) He was a very rare speciman: there are only about 70,000 white Batswana 3) The plural of Motswana is Batswana.
After studying the pub menu, and agreeing the Sunday roast was the thing, we all stuck the the core club principles and ordered pies. And beer.
Eventually the rain halted, so we unfurled our bikes and headed back to Richmond Park and I only lead them in the wrong direction once. Nigelme peeled of at the gate towards home, Mulleady went to his car and Diode and I parted company at Richmond Station.
All in all a fine day, considering. Next month???? Maybe Winchester???
