Get a cheap bike from Craigslist. A campus bike should be cheap and replaceable.

Our local craigslist is always packed with ladies bikes priced insanely cheap. Models from the late 80s/early 90s will be much better overall than a modern department store bike. Get a decent lock anyway. It saves hassle more than anything, nothing like coming out to any empty bike rack when you have to be across campus in 10 minutes.
