I have owned a few old roadsters, similar to the OP's German bicycle. Some of them tended to feel a bit like a train. Hard to get going but once underway, the bikes seemed like they just wanted to keep going.

Personally, I liked the ride quality for around town errand running. My favorite of the bunch was the Raleigh Tourist step through that was a true hoot to pedal around town. I should have kept at least one, but I didn't...



The OP has a pretty decent bicycle and I agree with other, though heavy the weight factor does not play an important part in this style of bicycle.
