When I bought my B17, it came in a box with an advert for the functional breakdown of Brooks saddles (eg, touring v. city riding v. racing). Their website is organized in a similar fashion: http://www.brookssaddles.com/catalog...+&+heavy+duty/

I think that all of those saddles are probably quite wonderful, depending on your needs. I would not hesitate to buy one for an upright bike. The fact that many, many Raleigh 3 speeds had Brooks saddles as original equipment attests to their use.

One of the big differences is the springs. These are incompatible with some seat bags (see Peter White's blurb on Carradice bags which he does not recommend for use with sprung Brooks saddles).
