It was ok for a while with 600 lumens light but now with them crossing the 1500 lumens and some even getting into the 3000 lumens, it is foreseeable that driver is going to complaint. Couldn't agree with you more. However, it's a very difficult, if not impossible thing to achieve on a small scale. Really need to have the LED firing rearward into a reflector, but then heat transfer out of the LEDs becomes very difficult. For now, the most viable option for handling that problem is to have a good control scheme where you can easily and quickly dim to an acceptably low power level when needed.
