I'd expect to see much the same in the US if 25% of all trips made were on bike. There would be a small percentage of enthusiasts and a much larger percentage who would view it as a means of going from A to Z.
I'm guessing, too, that the concept of being carfree is pretty much a "ho-hum" topic? Most people probably don't get wound up one way or the other if they run into someone who doesn't own a car.
