vile, talk to the pres. of your U's cycling club. Find out which shop they might have any discount/sponsorship deals with before you buy anything. There are also a number of road bike racing books that will be in your library...It's summer. After finishing you're ride your MTB with your new slicks, go check them out and read them cover to cover. Check for local bike swap/sales in your area. Have a knowledgable friend go with you and look at used bikes as well. Rule number one is bike fit. No bike is a deal if it isn't you're size, and you'll need help figuring out what you need, which leads you back to the University bike club president and his list of shops/contacts/ etc... Internet forums are great suppliment to your quest for information, but at this stage, you really need to be reading and talking to riders in your area. Good luck!
