It your budget for a new bike was $5000 how would you spend them?
Would you get an inexpensive frame, medium grade components and top wheelset - for example Wilier Izoard XP ($1200 at Competitive Cyclist), Shimano Ultegra 6700 and Zipp 404. This setup is roughly 25% on frame, 30% on components and 45% on wheels.
Or get a better frame like Ridley Noah RS ($2150) with less expensive wheels like Mavic Ksyrium SL.
Is there some kind of a “golden rule” on what percentage of the total cost should go towards the frame, components and wheels.
