ER docs are a poor resource for most things; they never see the people that don't get hurt during an activity, nor do they see a significant number of the ones for whom the activity is fatal. Their experience is limited to the relatively narrow window of people who are hurt bad enough to go to the ER, but aren't already dead when the ambulance shows up.
