I ride the same trail for the same reasons, but after doing my first group ride yesterday I discovered some seriously awesome roads out towards Leesburg. Still though, riding solo on roads is kind of sketchy. The W&OD isn't that much safer though. Too many crazy people and pedestrians. I hit a girl walking this past Friday. It was totally her fault, but thankfully she didn't get any serious injuries and I didn't go down. 121 miles is still really good though! I've done 100 going in the same direction as you and at the same average speed, but I started in Herndon. From your HR data it looks like we are in very similar shape too.
