I have no issue with them and would never insult a newbie for making a mistake. Neither did anyone on the thread about the OP's World Sport. As you suggest, we should offer guidance and help. What I take issue with isn't the bike he sold, it's his attitude.

I made a ton of mistakes on my Raleigh Pro. It was my first vintage frame up build and I goofed some stuff. I also didn't call the people who helped me old grumps and I doubt you would have done that to people who helped you either. I don't spend that much time on the evaluation section, but every time I have I saw helpful people offering their expertise and knowledge to promote the hobby and sport. I sure haven't seen old grumps.
Well said Aaron. When we first start into our bike habit, we all make mistakes. Certainly my choice of a Peugeot UE-8 is laughable to many here in the forums and I have spent WAAAY to much money on building that bike into something that it was never meant to be. The attitude I have towards the folks here is that they offer advice that I can choose to accept or ignore. Look at all the folks that ribbed me with the my question on whether to use a leather chainstay protector on a bike with an IGH. I took it all in good humour and accept the ribbing for what it is. In spite of all the opinions I think I'm going to up the ante and install not just one but two chainstay protectors (one on each side) on my next build. Just sayin'...
