Yes, the S-A oil routine is basically fill with what you think is enough, and typically you have oil coming out on spokes, hub and rims -- of course, that's too much. Fortunately, after the overage leaks out, it's good for a long time. I just put in a couple squirts when the sound changes to more metallic (but it'll do that for a minute or so when left unridden for a month!). I try to park the bike (indoors particularly) more or less vertical -- leaving axle at an angle can often lead to a resumption of leakage.

Oil on rim braking surfaces is sometimes difficult to remove completely. I haven't found anything yet that does a great single-pass job. I usually use isopropyl alcohol (90%, not 70%), but it's not wonderful. Something like the recommended lacquer thinner or naphtha might be a better oil solvent; but my spouse goes berserk.
