In the past, there was a race to the bottom with bike weights (because many people would buy bikes based on weight), with various manufacturers fudging their weight numbers more and more so as to not appear to have heavier bikes than their competition, who were also fudging weight numbers (either by giving weights for the smallest frames, or with many components missing (no pedals or saddle, etc), or by flat out making up numbers).
The upshot is that you cannot trust a bike weight given by a manufacturer, if one is given at all.
So in other words weight weenies might not be so dumb after all.. since they actually know the "given" weight of a bike from adding up components...
