Driver almost hits two cyclists...in a bike shop

MISSION VIEJO – An 85-year-old woman drove through a plate glass window and into a Mission Viejo bicycle shop on Tuesday, with a store full of customers and employees managing to escape serious injury, authorities said.
The woman was driving a 2001 Cadillac Deville with her granddaughter at about 5 p.m. when she crashed through the front of Rock N’ Road Cyclery in the 27800 block of Santa Margarita Parkway, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone said.

The vehicle traveled through the store before striking a back wall, Stone said.

The woman told investigators that she was pulling into a handicapped parking space when she accidently hit the gas instead of the brake, Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Strachan said.

Two people inside the store were struck by glass, and a third reported a minor knee injury, Stone said. The person who suffered the knee injury had just had knee surgery, Strachan said, and investigators don’t know whether she was actually hit by the vehicle.

No major structural damage to the building was reported.

The woman and her granddaughter were reportedly uninjured, and no arrests were made.

Cyclists don't belong in the bike shops. They should be on bike paths. They were probably standing two abreast and it is clearly not the driver's fault.
