For future reference: I had occasion to go to Victoria Park in Hackney last weekend, magnificent, if it was in Paris it would be world famous; its also very close to the Lee Valley Park bike rides, might make a suitable venue for some future excursion. Broadway Market is close by, plenty of pies and fry ups to be had.
I know it well - I used to live in Leyton and often did the Lea Valley down to Limehouse or up to as far as Ware, Hertfordshire - The Roman Road Market area is indeed pie heaven and Victoria Park seems much larger than it looks on a map.
