Always a worthwhile discussion if it reminds those of us who forget, informs those of us who don;t know. Rides can always move out of a structure and free flow into a crazy hammer fest or just a easy bimble. But being aware of all the elements of riding close to others makes any ride not only safer but also less stressful and more enjoyable.
We just had that conversation at yesterday's club picnic - many liked doin TTs cause they didn;t have to worry about other riders - I said I preferred the knuckle to knuckle fun of a strong group ride.
There is something to be said about finding a way to control your T level and bringing 'mellow' into a ride when it feels right.

thinking back, and not in a 'good ole daze' way, riders did become better, smarter and more proficient because they were paid attention to; and it adds a rich patina to a rider's cycling experience.
I see the same thing in our club's junior program - awesome stuff and the young riders who come thru this are awesome riders.
Weekdays does mean I ride quite a bit alone, which makes weekend group rides a greatly anticipated event.
I feel sad for those who never get to experience the great elements of nice group rides.
this is one thread subject which never gets tired.
