Same here. I've had too many run-ins with skunks. At first, I kept telling myself just to scan the trail like mad as I ride it, but it doesn't matter. They come out of the brush when you least expect it and they have no idea you're there (skunks have lousy eyesight). You ride by them as they meander all over the trail, then they freak out and give you the raised tail. To me, the possibility of being sprayed isn't worth the risk, so I just ride the expressway during the early morning portion of my commute.
